Camden, N.J. (4/6/24) – The Kean University baseball team dropped a pair of one run decisions to host Rutgers-Camden on Saturday in NJAC action.
Game One – Rutgers-Camden 6, Kean 5 (10 innings)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars (14-11, 2-4 NJAC) started things off with two runs in the first inning. JT Abrusci led off with a single and after stealing second, scored on an RBI single from Phil Marcantonio. Trevor Coltenback followed with an RBI single of his own.
Rutgers-Camden (16-6, 3-1 NJAC) cut the deficit in half in the second with a double and groundout and took their first lead in the bottom of the fourth with two RBI singles and an RBI double.
Just as quickly, Kean took the lead back in their next at-bat with two RBI from Coltenback and an RBI double from Tyler Stone.
The Scarlet Raptors tied things at five-all in the fifth with an RBI single and won it in the bottom of the tenth with a two out single.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Stone was 4-for-5 with two doubles while Coltenback registered three RBI.
Game Two – Rutgers-Camden 4, Kean 3
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The nightcap was a see-saw affair that saw Rutgers-Camden take the lead for good in the eighth.
Tied at two-all in the eighth, the Scarlet Raptors rallied with two outs with two RBI singles sandwiched around two walks.
Kean added one in the ninth with a pinch-hit RBI double from Christian Pellone, but Rutgers-Camden was able to seal the win and threat with a strikeout.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
The teams combined for just nine total hits in game two as three of Kean's five hits were for extra bases. Nick Sellari was 2-for-3.
