Mahwah, N.J. (5/4/24) – The Kean University softball team advanced in the NJAC Tournament with a 5-2 win over #2 Ramapo College on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Ramapo put two on the board in the first inning as Katie Rygiel and Avery Kontura hit consecutive doubles. Michela Wheeler contributed with an RBI single.
Kean tied things up in the third as Melody Caces and Eliza Filus reached on back-to-back singles and moved into scoring position with a sacrifice. Maya Thompson recorded two RBI with a groundball and miscue.
The Cougars took their first lead of the day in the fifth as Andee Perseponko lofted a sac fly, scoring Filus who reached on a single.
Karly Messina added insurance in the seventh, with a two run homer for what would be the final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Caces, Filus and Messina all had two hits each.
In the circle, Nikki Lusnia picked up the win tossing the complete game. She allowed two runs and nine hits while striking out eight.
