Virginia Beach, Va. (8/31/24) – The Kean University women's volleyball team split at the Marlin Invitational held at Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon.
Kean 3, Marymount 0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-19)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars raced out to a 10-1 lead in the opening set.
Kean edged Marymount in the second set of the day after a see-saw affair.
The Cougars used mini runs in the final set of the opener to walk away with the straight set win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Cayley Elena Morrison notched a match-high 12 kills.
Aspen O'Brien collected 36 assists along with five digs.
Virginia Wesleyan 3, Kean 0 (18-25, 19-25, 22-25)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Virginia Wesleyan (4-0) used a 9-3 run in the first set for extra cushion early.
Trailing by one, the Marlins took advantage of four straight Kean errors to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Kean rallied late in the third set to pull within two on multiple occasions but errors down the stretch sealed the win for the hosts.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Morrison led the Cougars with 10 kills while hitting .412.

Kean returns home for their first of the season in Harwood Arena on Tuesday against New York University at 7 p.m.
