Virginia Beach, Va. (9/3/24) – The Kean University women's volleyball team fell to #3 New York University in their home opener by the final of 3-1.
NYU 3, Kean 1 (12-25, 20-25, 25-22, 18-25)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars (2-3) fell behind early in the set and couldn't quite dig out of the early hole.
Kean closed to within four on several occasions on the second stanza but couldn't find the equalizer.
Trailing by two late in the third set, the Cougars rallied for four straight points to take the lead. NYU pulled within one, but Kean was able to put the game away with two kills down the stretch.
Kean kept things close in the fourth set and pulled within three (21-18), but the Violets scored the match's final four points with three kills and an ace to close out the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Bella Stem and Alison Kowalewski each led Kean with 11 kills. Kowalewski added eight digs while Stem recorded two aces.
Annabelle Valencia registered a team-high 19 digs.

Kean heads to the road to local Drew University for a 7 p.m. contest on Thursday evening.
