Cortland, N.Y. (9/14/24) – The Kean University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches while playing in New York state on Saturday.
John Carroll 3, Kean 1 (25-27, 25-20, 10-25, 19-25)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars (4-6) jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the first set, but the Blue Streaks rallied and took their first lead (13-14). Trailing 24-21, Kean tied things up at 24-all with kills from Aubre Adams and Madeline Dohogne along with an ace from Madi DeMartini. After trading points, John Carroll took the set with a kill and Cougar error.
After an early see-saw battle in the second set, Kean gave themselves a small cushion with three straight points (15-10). The Cougars were able to use that cushion down the stretch to knot the match at two-all.
John Carroll used several runs in the third set to cruise to a 2-1 advantage.
After falling behind early, Kean pushed back and pulled within five (22-17), but JC was able to close out the set for the 3-1 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Anne Marie Beckemeyer led all players with 16 kills while hitting .583. She added three assisted blocks.
Adams and Bella Stem each had 12 kills.
Aspen O'Brien registered 43 assists while Annabelle Valencia tallied 20 digs.
SUNY Cortland 3, Kean 0 (13-25, 17-25, 25-27)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Red Dragons (7-2), who are currently receiving votes in the latest AVCA poll, led from start to finish in the matchup. Each set Cortland jumped out to an early lead with three, five and six point spurts respectively.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Adams and Beckemeyer each had seven kills while Dohogne had 15 digs.

The Cougars host the Kean Invitational next weekend, beginning on Friday.
