Union, N.J. (9/20/24) – The Kean University women's volleyball team split on day one of the Kean Invitational.
Kean 3, Centenary 0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-13)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The match started slow with a see-saw battle up until point 11. From there the Cougars warmed up and finished set one on a 14-2 run.
Kean sprinted out to a 15-4 lead in the second stanza, easily taking a 2-0 lead.
After falling behind early, the Cougars used short bursts in what would be the final set of the matchup to earn the straight set decision.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Aubre Adams and Ashley Kingsley each had a match-high 10 kills. Adams added three aces, six digs and two assisted blocks while Kingsley provided two aces. In total the Cougars recorded 15 aces in the first match.
The Cougar setters split time and each finished with similar assists as Aspen O'Brien registered 10, and Danielle Suter and Kalea Miller each had 12.
Swarthmore 3, Kean 0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-21)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was an early back-and-forth affair before the Garnets pushed out to an 18-13 advantage. Kean rallied back and came within one point (22-21). Swarthmore used two kills and an ace to edge the Cougars in set one.
Leading 14-12 in the second set, Swarthmore then pushed the advantage with a 9-0 run to cruise out to a 2-0 lead.
Kean held things close in the final set and pulled within one on four separate occasions down the stretch, but the Garnets were able to close things out with two kills from Angelina Heminway.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Bella Stem and Alison Kowalewski each had seven hills to lead Kean. Kowalewski added four aces and six digs.

Kean returns to action on Saturday for day two of the invitational matchup against SUNY New Paltz and the University of Mt. St. Vincent.
