Union, N.J. (9/21/24) – The Kean University women's volleyball team split on day one of the Kean Invitational.
Kean 3, SUNY New Paltz 1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-17, 25-16)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Leading 19-17 in the first set, the Cougars (7-7) surged with six of the next seven points to pick up set one.
The Hawks raced out to a large lead in the second stanza (16-4), but the Cougars started to chip away and kept themselves in it. With New Paltz at set point, Kean rolled off five straight to close within one (24-23). Letisha Perez registered a kill to thwart the threat.
The Cougars led from start to finish in the third set.
Leading by just one in the fourth set (17-16), the Cougars rolled off eight straight to walk away with the win. Madeline Dohogne contributed with four aces in the run.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Taylor Micheaux led the way with 11 kills with nine digs.
Anne Marie Beckemeyer added nine kills and eight digs.
Annabelle Valencia recorded 21 digs.
Dohogne and Ashley Kingsley combined for nine aces.
Kean 3, University of Mt. St. Vincent 0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-9)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After a slow start, the Cougars ended the first set on an 11-2 run for the quick lead.
Kean then took control and cruised to the straight set win for their second of the day.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Micheaux had a team-best eight kills while hitting .636.
Alondra Sanjurjo Mercado collected five kills while hitting .500.

Kean heads on the road to take on Manhattanville on Tuesday.
