Morrisville, N.Y. (9/7/24) – The Kean University football team lost a 7-0 battle with host SUNY Morrisville to open the 2024 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Morrisville scored the game's only points on their first play from scrimmage of the contest. Alek Britten found Quamel Jarvis deep in the middle and after catching it around midfield he ran his way to a touchdown.
The Cougar defense held the rest of the way, forcing two fumbles and an interception along the way.
Kean's two best scoring opportunities came in the second and fourth quarters. In the second, the Cougars found themselves just outside the redzone with a 14-yard rush from John Perry and a 15-yard penalty from the Mustangs. Morrisville thwarted the threat with an interception.
In the fourth quarter, Rocco Pellegrini helped push the Cougars down the field, using almost five minutes off the clock. The Cougars thought they had the game within reach, but a 13-yard touchdown pass was called back for a Kean penalty. The Cougars kept at it but with fourth down looming, Kean's final pass of the afternoon was intercepted in the endzone with 1:02 left in the contest.
