Union, N.J. (1/22/25) – The Kean University women's basketball team held on to defeat visiting Stockton University, 57-55, on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Stockton (9-8, 5-5 NJAC) jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and held a small lead for the remainder of the first half. The Ospreys had their largest lead at the intermission (29-21).
The Cougars (8-9, 5-5 NJAC) kept pace and slowly chipped away, taking their first lead of the day late in the third quarter with a fastbreak layup from Erika Mercedes (37-36).
Over the next four minutes, spanning the third and fourth quarters, the teams seesawed before Kean took the lead for good with seven and a half minutes to go.
The Ospreys held it to a one or two possession game down the stretch, but the Cougars were able to hold on for the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Maddison Vaughn led the team with 19 points while adding eight rebounds and five assists in 34 minutes.
Brittany Graff collected eight points and eight assists while Sela Lefler contributed with eight points and 11 rebounds.
For Stockton, Skylar Fowlkes had a double-double with game-highs of 24 points and 13 rebounds.
