New York, N.Y. (10/18/25) – The Kean University women's volleyball team split in action on Saturday falling to NYU 3-2 and topping Williams, 3-2.
NYU 3, Kean 2 (17-25, 26-24, 25-20, 22-25, 8-15)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Violets (14-7) used a 12-1 run to break a nine-all tie in the first set to pull ahead 1-0.
After trailing early, the Cougars (18-5) were able to pull ahead late and win the see-saw battle down the stretch as Ashley Torok closed set two with an extra time kill.
Kean used that momentum and pushed out to an 18-13 advantage in the third set. Despite a late rally by NYU, a kill from Aspen O'Brien put Kean ahead 2-1.
Tied at 16-all in the fourth, the Violets used a small four-point rally to take a lead they would not relinquish, forcing a decisive fifth set.
NYU took advantage of three early attack errors for the Cougars to complete the rally for the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Torok led all players with 19 kills. She added seven digs and two aces. Alison Kowalewski and Victoria Latino each had nine kills while Kowalewski added 16 digs.
O'Brien crossed the 3,000 career assist plateau in the five setter.
Kean 3, Williams 2 (25-17, 17-25, 20-25, 25-14, 17-15)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Kean used a 6-1 run to take an early lead. The Cougars finished off the set with an 8-3 run to take an early 1-0 lead.
Williams (14-4) used a late surge in the second set (12-2) to even things back up at 1-1.
The Ephs broke a nine-all tie in the third set using a four point surge that was just enough down the stretch to push ahead 2-1.
Kean turned things around in the fourth set, using a 10-2 surge midway through to power to a decisive fifth set for the second time on the day.
The Cougars fell behind early (12-9) but rallied late and tied things up with two aces from Mia Manko. Kills from Cayley Elena Morrison and Bella Stem completed the rally for a split on the day.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Morrison had a match-high 15 kills and added six total blocks. Stem hit .600 and did not commit an error while registering nine kills.
