Union, N.J. (2/28/25) – The Kean University baseball team swept New York University 11-7 and 7-2 on Friday in non-conference action.
Game 1 – Kean 11, NYU 7
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Tied at one-all in the fifth, the Violets (2-3) took the lead with a two RBI single from Nate Pallota.
Kean (8-1) chipped away in the next inning with a single run, an RBI single from Cal Chase.
After trading single runs in the seventh, the Cougars exploded for eight runs in the eighth. Highlighting the inning was a three run blast from Mike Colonnello which gave Kean the advantage. Kean collected seven hits in the frame and batted around.
NYU added three in the top of the ninth on a bases-clearing double from Conner Roggero, but Noah Rivera was able to work out of the jam, to earn his first win of the season.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Chase was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double while Tyler Stone, Dominic Masino and Justin Teixeira all had two hits each from the top of the lineup.
Game 2 – Kean 7, NYU 2
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Violets plated the first run of the nightcap with a leadoff walk followed by a double in the third inning.
Kean answered right back and took the lead for good as Stone tripled, driving in two. Chase followed with an RBI groundout to give the Cougars a 3-1 lead.
Leading 5-2 in the seventh, Kean extended their lead as Stone tripled for the second time in the contest, driving home Teixeira and Stone later scored on an error.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Jason Gilman dominated on the mound on his way to his third win of the season. He struck out 14 and allowed just five hits and one walk.
Stone was 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored while Teixeira was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two walks and four stolen bases.
