Union, N.J. (4/1/25) – The Kean University softball team shutout visiting New Jersey City University in NJAC action on Tuesday afternoon.
Game One – Kean 7, NJCU 0
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars quickly put up five runs in the first two frames. Kean scratched across a single run on a wild pitch and later Samantha Raymond and Maya Thompson both doubled and came around to score on a dropped infield popup.
Kean added two in the second thanks to a bases-loaded walk and an RBI groundout.
KU closed out the scoring in the sixth as Andee Perseponko and Thompson each collected RBI hits.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Nikki Lusnia twirled a one-hitter, allowing just one walk while striking out six. She now has 300 strikeouts in her collegiate career.
Offensively Raymond was 1-for-1 with three walks while Thompson was 3-for-4.
Game Two – Kean 9, NJCU 0 (5 innings)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Gina Mahlik broke through in the first with a two RBI triple and later came around to score on an error for an early 3-0 lead.
Kean pushed the lead out to seven in the third with a sac fly from Mahlik and a three run homer off the bat of Kylie Petak.
With the bases loaded in the fourth, Bella Truelove walked, forcing home Thompson. Mahlik quickly followed behind her with heads up base running and a 9-0 lead.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Olivia Quercia earned the complete game win. She allowed just two hits and three walks.
Mahlik and Petak each finished with three RBI in the nightcap.

Kean heads to Drew University on Thursday in a rescheduled matchup.
