Union, N.J. (9/19/25) – The Kean University women's volleyball team picked up two wins in the opening day of the Kean Invitational on Friday evening.
Kean 3, Alfred 0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-16)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars (9-1) trailed early in the first set, but flipped the script with three straight points to break a 15-all tie. That was just enough to keep Kean in the lead down the see-saw stretch.
Kean again fell behind early in the second stanza (7-1), but mounted a rally and took their first lead of the set (10-9) behind three straight kills (Aspen O'Brien, Victoria Latino, Cayley Elena Morrison). Later tied at 19-all, the Cougars recorded a three-point burst behind kills from Morrison and Ashley Torok to gain just enough cushion down the stretch.
The Cougars cruised in what would be the final set with a 10 point run on their way to the straight set win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Morrison recorded 10 kills, six blocks and hit .529. Latino added nine kills and Bella Stem registered eight.
Kean 3, Hunter 1 (25-17, 25-17, 19-25, 25-6)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars scored the final five points in the opening set to pull ahead 1-0. Madeline Dohogne had two aces in the span. Kean led from start to finish in the second frame to go ahead 2-0, but the Hawks rallied in set three, using a 5-0 run to break a four-all tie and add just enough cushion that the Cougars couldn't catch up.
Kean dominated the final set, ending the match on a 13-0 run, to pick up two wins on the day.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Torok collected 18 kills while hitting .625. She added four aces and four digs. Morrison hit an impressive .900 with nine kills on 10 swings.
