Union, N.J. (9/20/25) – The Kean University women's volleyball team pushed their win streak to eight and added a Kean Invitational crown with wins over Salisbury University and Drew University on Saturday.
Kean 3, Salisbury 1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars (11-1) pushed out to an early 8-3 lead with a 5-0 run to gain an advantage they would not relinquish for the rest of the set.
Trailing by two (19-17), the Sea Gulls (10-4) ended set two on an 8-1 run to even the match up at one-all.
Kean jumped out to an early lead again in set three (12-4), but Salisbury marched back and pulled within one (16-15). The Cougars held on to the lead down the stretch, but the Sea Gulls kept things close for the remainder of the match.
The final set was a classic give-and-take with neither team giving in down the stretch. Tied at 23-all, rookie Ashley Torok nailed down two kills to seal the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Aspen O'Brien recorded a career-high 61 assists while adding 15 digs for a double-double. Torok and Cayley Elena Morrison combined from 48 kills (23, 25) with Morrison posting a .581 hitting mark and Torok registering 17 digs. Five Cougars had double-digit digs with Madeline Dohogne, Alison Kowalewski and Annabelle Valencia adding to the totals (13, 15, 10).
The win is the first for Kean against Salisbury since 1995.
Kean 3, Drew 1 (25-17, 24-26, 25-19, 25-23)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars ended set one on a 9-3 run to take a 1-0 lead. The second stanza was a set of bunches as each team used small runs to see-saw with the lead. Trailing 23-20, the Rangers used two kills and two aces to take the lead. Back-to-back service errors give Drew the advantage and Emily Shirk evened the match up with a kill in extras.
Kean used a five-point run midway through set three to build enough cushion to regain a 2-1 advantage.
The Cougars trailed late in what would be the final set, but used a 3-0 run to pull away with the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Victoria Latino collected 15 kills and 12 digs while Morrison added 13 kills to her daily total. Torok posted 11 kills and five digs.

The Cougars enjoy some rest before heading to New Paltz next weekend.
