Late Surge by Kean Jersey City Not Enough to Overcome Bryant & Stratton - Syracuse on Senior Night

UNION, N.J. – Kean University Jersey City women's soccer mounted a late rally with goals from Gabriella Cardona and India Berman, but Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse held on for a 4-3 victory on Saturday afternoon. Before the game, the Cougars honored their five seniors, Jennifer Limon-Flores, Melanie Lopez, Beatriz Oliveira Dos Santos, Arianna Chavez, and Sarah Alvarez.

Beatriz Oliveira Dos Santos gave the Cougars an early advantage, finishing a pass from Sarah Alvarez in the 13th minute to put Kean Jersey City ahead, 1-0. The Cougars continued to generate opportunities throughout the opening half, with Oliveira Dos Santos putting four shots on goal and Gabriella Cardona testing Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse goalkeeper Jameela St. Clair. However, Masego Nfandiso pulled the visitors even in the 32nd minute off an assist from Ilana Lashley, sending the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.

Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse seized control early in the second half, benefiting from two own goals in the 52nd and 56th minutes to build a 3-1 advantage. The visitors continued to apply pressure before Kyla Flax added another goal in the 83rd minute, extending the lead to 4-1.

The Cougars refused to go quietly. Cardona found the back of the net in the 89th minute, finishing a feed from Angelica Curillo to cut the deficit to two. Kean Jersey City continued its push in the closing moments, as Berman scored in the final minute to bring the Cougars within one at 4-3. Despite the late surge, Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse held on through the final whistle.
