Kean Jersey City Women's Soccer Stumbles Against CCNY

UNION, N.J. - The Kean Jersey City Cougars squared off against the Beavers of the City College of New York (CCNY) at Alumni Stadium on Thursday, October 8, and fell 2-1.

Kean Jersey City (3-4-1) was limited to seven shots offensively against the Beavers while putting three on frame. Corner kicks were even at two apiece, and in between the pipes, Jessica Martin made seven saves. Offensively, six of the Cougars' seven shots came from Beatriz Oliveira Dos Santos, India Berman, and Gabriella Cardona.

CCNY (4-4) tallied 13 shots on the night and put 9 of them on target. Sara Rodriguez led the way with a game-high three shots. Jade Salas made two saves on the night.

The Cougars found their opening goal 12 minutes into the contest when Cardona was fouled in the box and awarded a penalty kick. Cardona would hit a low driven shot to the bottom right corner from the penalty spot to put the Cougars ahead 1-0 early on. The Beavers never wavered and eventually leveled the game in the 34th minute. Zherlyn Guaillazaca was able to beat Martin with a shot to the back post to change the halftime talk.

Both goalies were busy early in the second half, having to parry away shots to keep the opposition out of the net. The Beavers, however, unlocked the Cougars' defense in the 68th minute for their second tally of the night. Kean Jersey had chances down the stretch but couldn't find the equalizer.
