Union, N.J. (3/14/26) – The Kean University baseball team erupted for seven runs in the first inning on their way to defeating SUNY New Paltz, 9-5, on Saturday afternoon.

With two outs in the first, Jude Clough singled home Dominica Masino who also reached on a single. Tyler Stone quickly made it 3-0 with a two run homer to left.  John Chiusano kept the inning going with a double and later scored on an outfield error.  Brett Hilsheimer collected an RBI single and later scored on another miscue.  Masino recorded a single for the second time in the frame and Dan Reistle walked to load the bases.  Justin Teixeira rounded out the scoring as he was hit by the pitch, bringing home Nick Sellari.

Reistle added a single run in the third with an RBI single (8-1).  The Cougars scored what would be their last in the fourth as Stone doubled home Clough.

New Paltz rallied late, scoring two in the seventh and two more in the ninth, but the Cougars were able to work out of trouble to preserve the win.

Stone was a triple shy of the cycle, finishing 3-for-3 with three RBI.  Reistle and Masino each had two hits.

Cal Chase earned the win in relief.  He allowed four hits and two walks in three and a third innings of work.  He struck out two.

Kean travels to Immaculata on Tuesday.
