Baseball Sweeps NJCU in NJAC Opening Weekend

Jersey City, N.J. (3/28/26) – The Kean University baseball team swept New Jersey City University in the NJAC opening weekend for both by the finals of 12-2 and 17-5.

Kean 12, NJCU 2 (Game One)

After falling behind by a single run early, the Cougars (16-4-1) took the lead for good with a three-spot in the second.  Dominic Masino recorded his first of three doubles on the day, bringing home two.  Justin Teixeira later drove in one on a grounder.

Kean out the game out of reach with a six-run fifth.  Mike Colonnello and Teixeira each registered two RBI with outfield singles.

Christian Pareja improved to 3-0 with an eight inning outing.  He allowed no earned runs and five hits.  Pareja fanned five and walked one.

Offensively Masino was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI while Teixeira was 2-for-6 with three RBI.  Michael Simone added three hits (one double) and an RBI.

Kean 17, NJCU 5 (Game Two)

The nightcap featured a see-saw affair before Kean blew the game open with a six-spot in the seventh, taking an 11-5 lead.  The Cougars didn't stop there and added six more in the ninth.

In total, the Cougars collected 19 hits and were hit six times.

Teixeira was 5-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored while Masino was 3-for-7 with three runs scored.  Simone recorded three RBI and three runs scored while Jude Clough posted three RBI while registering three hits.  Nick Sellari was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Cal Chase earned the win in relief.  He allowed no earned runs and two hits in three innings.

Kean returns home to face Centenary University on Tuesday.
