Wayne, N.J. (4/11/26) – The Kean University softball team won a pair of one-run games in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon
Kean 5, William Paterson 4 (Game One)
The opener featured a classic see-saw battle with the Cougars trailing 4-3 heading into the seventh. Gina Mahlik reached on an error with one out and tied the game up at four-four off a Rielynn Carey double. Nikki Lusnia recorded the go-ahead RBI with a single to right.
Lusnia then was able to nail down the win in the circle facing one batter above the minimum in the bottom of the seventh.
Ashley Weber and Brianna Sciulli each recorded two hits in the win.
Kean 6, William Paterson 5 (Game Two)
The Cougars pounded out 17 hits in the nightcap, scoring runs in the first four innings. With runners on second and third after singles from them both, Mahlik brought them both home with a single. Weber added a single run in the second reaching on a double and coming around to score after Sciulli's single.
Kean made it 5-0 in the third as Mahlik walked to lead off the inning. Carey drove her home with a double and Samantha Raymond pushed across Carey with an RBI single.
Carey registered what would be the winning RBI in the fourth on a single, scoring Natalie Stannard.
William Paterson rallied in their final at-bat, plating five runs on three hits and two walks, but Raymond was able to work out of trouble to preserve the win.
Mahlik, Weber and Carey all recorded three hits in the win.
