Softball Sweeps Rutgers-Newark

Union, N.J. (4/14/26) – The Kean University softball team swept Rutgers-Newark in NJAC action on Tuesday afternoon, running their win streak to six.

Kean 7, Rutgers-Newark 1 (Game One)

The Cougars got all the runs they would need in the second inning as Samantha Raymond opened the scoring with a solo homer to center and Ashley Weber tripled, driving in Morgan Boyd and Nikki Lusnia.

Raymond homered in her very next at-bat, this time a two-run shot, to add to Kean's lead (5-0).

Rutgers-Newark erased the shutout in the fifth as Mariah Rimas-McManus collected an RBI infield single.

Kean added insurance in their half of the same inning as Gina Mahlik tripled home Kiley Allen and Rielynn Carey lofted a sac fly.

Lusnia earned the win after tossing five innings allowing one run on three hits while striking out nine.

Kean 2, Rutgers-Newark 0 (Game Two)

In the low scoring nightcap, Mahlik erased the shutout with an RBI double in the third frame.  Raymond helped her own cause and homered for the third time on the day with a solo shot to left.

In the circle she recorded the shutout win with a complete game effort allowing just three singles and one walk.  She struck out four.

The Cougars are back in action on Saturday when they travel to the College of New Jersey.
