Union, N.J. (4/9/26) – Kean University pounded out 11 runs on 15 hits on their way to defeating Montclair State University, 11-2 on Thursday afternoon in NJAC action.
The Red Hawks (20-7, 4-3 NJAC) went ahead 2-0 in the first as Zach Stearns lined a homer down the rightfield line.
Kean got one back in the third as Nick Sellari and Dominic Masino singled to start the frame. JT Abrusci lofted a sac fly to get the Cougars on the board.
The Cougars took the lead for good in the fourth. Cole McGourty got things going with a double and Dan Reistle put runners on first and third with a single. Brett Hilsheimer tied things up with a sacrifice and Reistle put Kean ahead with a swipe of home. Masino added cushion with an RBI double.
After tacking on two runs in the fifth, Kean put the game away with five runs in the sixth. Highlighting the frame was an RBI single from Justin Teixeira. The Cougars scored one on a balk and cleared the bases with an MSU miscue.
Lucas White (5-1) earned the win after tossing eight innings. He allowed six hits and two walks while striking out four.
Offensively Masino, McGourty and Reistle all collected three hits.
The two teams will square off again on Friday at Yogi Berra Stadium.
