Hoboken, N.J. (9/12/26) – The Kean University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to Stevens and Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon.
Stevens 3, Kean 1 (27-29, 20-25, 25-20, 17-25)
The Ducks came out hot, scoring the match's first five points behind three aces. Kean (2-3) rallied back, knotted the set at 13-all thanks to a kill, and assisted block from Cayley Elena Morrison. Stevens countered with a 6-1 run but the Cougars did not go away quietly, mounting six straight points to take the lead, 24-23. The teams traded points down the stretch but Stevens used a kill and Kean error to take set one in extras.
After taking a quick 1-0 lead in the second, the Ducks used a 5-0 run to take the lead for good and pushed out to a 2-0 advantage.
The third stanza featured a see-saw battle, but the Cougars broke a 13-all tie with 6-2 spurt that was enough of a cushion to erase the shutout.
Kean led early in the fourth frame, but the Ducks used three separate surges to put the match out of reach.
Ashley Torok led the Cougars with 17 kills in the opener.
Swarthmore 3, Kean 0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-14)
The Cougars used an early 6-0 run to take a 9-5 lead in the opening set. Swarthmore turned things around later with a 6-0 run of their own, taking a 17-13 lead. The Garnet finished the set on a 7-2 run.
Tied at five-all in the second, Swarthmore recorded seven of the next eight points to take a lead they would not relinquish.
The Cougars pushed out to a 10-7 lead in the third, but the Garnet took advantage of four attack errors and recorded two aces during an 8-0 run to turn the table. Swarthmore then controlled the rest of the third set to take the straight set win.
Morrison had nine kills while hitting .471 in the nightcap.
Kean returns home to face Whittier College (Calif.) on Friday evening.
