Hat-Tricks by Roman & Cardona Roll Kean Jersey Past Bucks County, 12-1

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Kean University Jersey City women's soccer team delivered an offensive showcase Wednesday afternoon, cruising past Bucks County Community College, 12-1, in its home opener at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex.

Kean Jersey City (2-2) peppered the Centurions with 37 shots and put 21 on frame. The Cougars also edged out the Centurions 9-1 in corner kicks and were only called for two fouls in the win. Somaia Roman filled the stat sheet with four goals and an assist in the win on seven shots. Also picking up a hat trick in the win was Gabriella Cardona, who also did so on seven shots. In the net, Jessica Martin was stellar with six saves while allowing just one goal.

Bucks County Community College (0-1) had 13 chances in their first game of the season, led by Regan Kelso. Alyssa Smith was the lone goal scorer for the Centurions while Emily Gilmore was busy in goal all game, collecting 9 saves.

Gabriella Cardona opened the scoring just 1:40 into the contest, finishing off an assist from Beatriz Oliveira Dos Santos. Sarah Alvarez doubled the advantage in the ninth minute when she converted a feed from Somaia Roman, giving the Cougars a 2-0 lead before 10 minutes had elapsed. Kean Jersey City continued to apply pressure, with Roman finding the back of the net in the 17th minute off another assist from Oliveira Dos Santos. Oliveira Dos Santos then got on the scoresheet herself in the 23rd minute, taking a pass from Kayla Rodrigues and pushing the advantage to 4-0.

India Berman added another goal just three minutes later, making it a 5-0 contest midway through the opening half. Roman capped the first-half scoring for the Cougars in the 31st minute, completing a quick offensive start with her second goal of the afternoon off an assist from Alvarez. Bucks County managed to get on the board late in the opening half when Alyssa Smith scored in the 43rd minute, but Kean Jersey City carried a commanding 6-1 advantage into halftime.

The Cougars showed no signs of slowing down after the break.

Cardona needed less than five minutes to add her second goal of the game, pushing the Kean Jersey City lead to 7-1 in the 50th minute. Roman followed with her third tally in the 60th minute, finishing a chance set up by Yanielis Labrador. Kean continued to dictate play throughout the second half, generating opportunities and keeping Bucks County under constant pressure. Cardona completed her hat trick in the 75th minute, scoring off an assist from Jennifer Limon-Flores to make it 9-1. Roman then capped a four-goal afternoon in the 85th minute, receiving a pass from Arianna Chavez before finding the back of the net for Kean's 10th goal.

The Cougars added two more goals in the closing minutes. Labrador scored in the 88th minute off an assist from Melanie Lopez before Chavez completed the scoring less than a minute later, taking a feed from Angela Chavez to make the final 12-1.
