Cougars Score Four in Road Win Over John Jay

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Kean University Cougars shut out the Bloodhounds of John Jay College on the road this afternoon, 4-0, at Randall's Island.

Kean (3-3) outshot John Jay 19-11 and put 13 shots on frame compared to just five for the Bloodhounds. The Cougars also dominated the corner kick category, 9-3. Between the pipes, Brooke Ginsberg made five saves to pick up her third shutout of the season. Offensively, the Cougars were led by Katelyn Greiner and Carly Gleason, who tallied four shots each and scored a goal.

John Jay (0-4) was held in check offensively, only testing Ginsberg five times in the contest. Annmarie Russo led the charge for the Bloodhounds with four shots, but it was Sofia Soler and Ava Lopez who put Ginsberg to work.

The Cougars opened their scoring ledger in the fifth minute when Gleason took a pass from Stephanie Monroe and powered her shot past Anina Gut. Kean recorded three shots in a five-minute span before unlocking the code to the Bloodhounds' defense once more. Natalia Soler picked up her third goal of the season in the 28th minute, off a pass from Monroe, to double the Cougars' tally. Despite trailing by two goals, the Bloodhounds struggled to muster any offense after the Cougars scored their second tally, registering two shots.

Out of the break, both teams slowed the pace of play down which resulted in just two shots in the first 30 minutes of the second stanza. When the Cougars kicked it into the next gear, they found two goals in quick succession. Olivia Cusick netted a goal at the 74:03 mark before Greiner capped the scoring for the Cougars with a goal in the 77th. The Kean defense did its job of preventing any last second chances by the Bloodhounds to complete the shutout.
