Union, N.J. (2/11/22) – Rookie southpaw Jason Gilman tossed seven and a third innings of shutout ball as he cruised to his first collegiate win as the Kean University baseball team blanked Drew University, 6-0, on Friday afternoon.
Gilman scattered five singles, fanned nine and did not walk a batter in his collegiate debut.
The Cougars (2-0) had a balanced scoring attack plating single runs in the first and second innings followed by a pair in the fifth and again in the seventh.
Highlighting the offense was an RBI triple from Kyle Adorno, two sac flies off the bat of Michael Lapczynski and RBI singles from Philip Mahlik and Phil Marcantonio.
Brett Hillsheimer was 3-for-5 on the afternoon with two runs scored while Mahlik crossed the plate two times and reached base via two walks.
Freshman Daniel Keenan closed out the game with one and two thirds innings of one hit, shutout ball. He struck out two and combined with Gilman to issue no walks on the day.
Kean will face Alvernia on Saturday at 11 a.m.
