Union, N.J. (2/12/22) – The Kean University baseball team made it three in a row as they defeated Alvernia University by the final of 11-4 on Saturday afternoon.
Conner DeForge was 4-for-4 and teammate Brett Hilsheimer drove in four as Kean improved to 3-0 on the young season.
Alvernia (0-1) got on the board early with a three spot in their first at bat as Thomas Faggioni drove in two with a triple and scored on an errant throw. Kean chipped away with single runs in the first and fourth and then took the lead for good with a five run fourth. Kyle Harrington got the scoring started in the fourth with a line drive sac fly. Hilsheimer later cleared the bases with a double. Philip Mahlik traded places with him to give Kean a 7-3 lead.
The Cougars extended their lead with two runs in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively. Highlighting the offense was an RBI double from DeForge and a two RBI single off the bat of Gianni Marano.
Marano was 2-for-4 with while Michael Lapczynski was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
On the mound Dylan Taliaferro earned the win with a five inning performance. He allowed two earned runs and struck out five. Justin Diefenbach tossed three innings of relief allowing one run and two hits with five strikeouts. Teammate Nolan Rowan closed out the game with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Kean returns to action on Friday when they host the College at Old Westbury.
