Myrtle Beach, S.C. (3/5/22) – The Kean University baseball team suffered their first loss of the season to Cabrini University by the final of 7-2 on Saturday morning.
Philip Mahlik and Phil Marcantonio each had two hits for the Cougars (10-1) in the loss.
The Cavaliers scored two unearned runs in the top of the first and made those hold up until the bottom of the fifth with Kean tied things up. Maracantonio started the inning with a single and Gianni Marano followed with a double to put both runners in scoring position. Back-to-back groundouts brought them both home to knot the game at two-all.
Cabrini (9-3) answered with three in their next at-bat with three straight doubles to open up the inning. They added insurance with two more in the top of the ninth.
Reliever Pat Toal got the complete game win in his first ever starting appearance for Cabrini. In the 126 pitch outing, he allowed two runs and six hits. He struck out seven and walked two.
Kean returns to action on Sunday when they face Penn State Berks at 12:30 p.m.
