Myrtle Beach, S.C. (3/6/22) – The Kean University baseball team belted out 19 runs on 22 hits as they defeated Penn State Berks 19-12 on Sunday afternoon.
Every starter for the #24 Cougars (11-1) had a hit, with eight of the nine with multiple hits on the afternoon. Tim Huxen led the way with a 3-for-5 day and four RBI while Michael Lapczynski, Caleb Rodriguez and Philip Mahlik also recorded three hit performances. In all, Kean had nine extra base hits, with three triples and six doubles.
The Cougars trailed early in the contest. After taking a 1-0 lead in the first, Penn State Berks plated three runs in the second, aided by some fly balls lost in the sun. Kean tied things up in the same inning but Penn State again replied and took their last lead of the day with a single run in the top of the third.
Kean then exploded for six runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good.
Dylan Taliaferro (4-0) picked up the win after striking out 10 in six innings. He allowed six runs and 10 hits with no walks.
Phil Marcantonio was 2-for-4 with three RBI while Rodriguez added three RBI and three runs scored.
The Cougars return to action on Monday when they face the University of Rochester at Pelican Stadium.
