Union, N.J. (4/21/22) – The Kean University baseball team used a five run first inning to push past visiting New Jersey City University by the final of 10-4 on Thursday afternoon in NJAC action.
Kyle Adorno, Brett Hilsheimer and Dylan Beyer all had a multi-hit day for the Cougars (27-6).
In the bottom of the first down 1-0, Kean used a wild pitch to tie things up. Later with two outs, Beyer singled for the go-ahead run and Michael Medvetz followed later in the frame with a two RBI double.
The Cougars added to their lead in the fourth as Phil Marcantonio led off the inning with a walk and later scoring on a wild pitch. Philip Mahlik doubled home the other run of the inning for a 7-1 lead after four.
NJCU (9-21, 1-10 NJAC) got one back in the top of the sixth with a solo shot from Josh Hernandez, who squeaked one inside the foul pole down the right field line. The Cougars responded with two in the same inning on RBI from Timothy Huxen and Mahlik.
The Gothic Knights scored two unearned runs in the top of the seventh and Kean rounded out the scoring in the bottom of the eighth with a solo shot from Michael Lapczynski.
On the mound Nolan Rowan improved to 5-0 on the season after tossing eight innings allowing two earned runs and four hits. He struck out six and walked two. Beyer had a one-two-three ninth inning in his second appearance of the season.
The two teams will square off again tomorrow in Jersey City at 3:30 p.m.
