Wayne, N.J. (5/3/22) – William Paterson University used a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to edge the Kean University baseball team by the final of 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Cougars (29-12) will now face Ramapo College, upset winners over Rowan University in a 16-13 win, on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
Kean jumped out early to a 4-0 lead in their first at bat as Christian Pellone, Michael Lapczynski, Josh Jackson and Gianni Marano all collected single RBI. Pellone recorded a double while Jackson and Marano had singles.
The Pioneers (27-13) cut quickly into the deficit with three runs in the second inning. Carson Weis delivered with a two run homerun and Jake Lutz scampered around on a wild pitch.
Dylan Habeeb tied the game up in the fifth inning with a sac fly. In the deciding final at bat, Collin Lombardo singled with one out and moved to second on a long fly ball. With two outs he came around and scored on an RBI single from Dan Carter for the game-winner.
Matt Lawler (4-2) earned the win in relief for WP. He didn't allow a run over four innings.
Justin Diefenbach (5-2) suffered the loss after tossing the complete game.
