Hall of Fame
Angela "Gela" Mazella had two years to leave an impression on the Kean basketball program after her transfer from Wagner College. She accomplished that and more from 1975 through 1977.
An outstanding point guard, Mazella could score as well as orchestrate an offense. In her two seasons in a Kean uniform, she netted 519 points, pacing the team both years. Counting her years at Wagner, she amassed a total of 1,066 for her career.
Her talents as a playmaker are well documented, as she led the squad in assists both seasons, totaling 230 in her 39 games for a 5.9 average. She also snared three rebounds per game.
A two-year captain, Mazella led the 1975-1976 team to a 15-5 record and its first-ever postseason appearance. She was named team's Most Valuable Player following the season. As a senior, she guided the club to a 16-4 mark and the EAIAW Championship, the program's first postseason title. The Squires (now Cougars) also captured the Christmas Tournament.
A second team All-EAIAW Division I choice, Mazella was selected to compete for the New Jersey All-Stars in a game against their New York counterparts.
Mazella was also a standout player for the softball team.
Mazella earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education from Kean in 1977.
