As a two-sport star at Kean College (now University) from 1973 through 1977, Donna Manfre-Gelesky captured eight varsity letters, four in softball and four in tennis.
On the diamond, Manfre-Gelesky posted a whopping .482 career batting average, a school record by a considerable margin. As a senior, she led the Squires (now Cougars) to an 11-2 mark and a second-place finish in the New Jersey State College Athletic Conference. She hit an astounding .509, pacing the squad with 16 runs batted in and 17 runs scored.
Manfre-Gelesky led the team in hitting in her junior campaign as well with an even .500 average, along with leading the team in runs batted in with 13. She also pitched for the 1976 Squires. She posted averages of .393 as a sophomore and .500 as a freshman.
The program won 30 of the 46 games in which the two-time captain played, and was invited to its first postseason appearance, competing in the EAIAW Regionals in 1976.
On the tennis court, Manfre-Gelesky was a vital member of the 1973 squad that captured the New Jersey State Championship. She was the team's Most Valuable Player and captain as both a junior and a senior.
For her accomplishments, Manfre-Gelesky received the 1976 D'Angola Award, presented annually to Kean's outstanding male and female student-athlete.
Manfre-Gelesky earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education from Kean in 1977.
