Competing in an extraordinary five different varsity sports, Linda J. Smith was certainly one of the most versatile Kean student-athletes of her era, or any other.
Unfortunately, statistics for Kean women's athletics were not kept in the 1960s, which is unfortunate, as Smith's would undoubtedly bear objective proof to her deep and diverse athletic skills.
A field hockey player first and foremost, Smith was a four-year starter who went on to compete at the national and international level throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.
Smith was also a four-year starter for the basketball squad, competed for three years on the tennis team, played softball for two seasons, and spent a year on the archery team.
Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in health and physical education in 1970.
