A star basketball player at Kean from 1975 through 1979, Jerome Hubbard was a vital member of the 1977-1978 squad that sprinted to a 23-5 mark and won the New Jersey State College Athletic Conference Championship, lasting all the way to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Hubbard was also a member of the 1976-1977 team that went 20-8, good enough for the program's first-ever postseason appearance in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament.

In his four years with the Squires (now Cougars), Hubbard helped lead his teams to an impressive 62-43 record.

The 6'4" center was a four-year starter for the Squires, racking up a second team All-NJSCAC nod in 1976-1977, a first team selection the following year, and an honorable mention after his senior season. Hubbard was also named All-ECAC Metro and selected to play in the New Jersey College Basketball Coaches All-Star Game in 1979.

Hubbard notched 846 points and over 800 rebounds throughout his Kean career. He averaged 8.7 points, a team-high 11 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game as a junior in 1977-1978.

Hubbard earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics in 1982.
