Kean University

A rare breed of student-athlete, Kathleen Conroy was a four-sport star for Kean College (now University) in the early 1970s, excelling in basketball, softball, field hockey and gymnastics.

Best known for her achievements during her four years of basketball and three years of softball, Conroy captained both squads. The first baseman had the second-highest batting average on the softball team as a senior in 1974.

In addition to her gymnastics competition, Conroy also played four years of field hockey, and was the team captain during her senior campaign.

Unfortunately, no additional records exist from her playing days, but her athletic excellence was made evident when she was bestowed the D'Angola Award in 1974, recognizing Conroy as the school's outstanding female athlete. She was also included in that year's edition of Who's Who in College Athletics.

Conroy served on the selection committee to find a women's director of athletics that eventually yielded Hall of Fame member Pat Hannisch.

Conroy earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in health and physical education from Kean in 1974.
