Acknowledged as the greatest pitcher in the history of the Kean softball program, Janice Lemchak etched four national records and six school records into the books from 1986 through 1989.
She holds NCAA Division III career records for games pitched (137), games started (133), innings pitched (889) and victories (91). She also holds the Kean record for complete games in a season with 40, currently second on the Division III list, in 1986.
Lemchak's 29 victories in 1986, 27 in 1988 and 26 in 1987 also sit among the top 20 totals in NCAA history. In addition, she maintains Kean standards in career strikeouts (360) and single season marks for earned run average (1.10), strikeouts (125) and wins (29).
The 1989 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Co-Pitcher of the Year, Lemchak spun two career no-hitters and was named to the All-Region Team in 1987, 1988 and 1989 as well as the All-NJAC squad in 1986, 1988 and 1989. A two-time captain, she was also the Cougars' Most Valuable Player in 1987 and 1988.
During Lemchak's stretch at Kean, the Cougars amassed an impressive 109-54 mark, including a 38-9 campaign in 1986 that saw their first-ever berth in the College World Series. She also led Kean to the 1987 Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship and the 1988 NCAA Regionals.
Lemchak earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical therapy from Kean in 1989.
