Hall of Fame
While Robert Salkin did not enjoy a great deal of team success while playing for Newark State Teachers College (now Kean University) from 1937 through 1941, he did manage to thrive personally, leading the squad in scoring as a senior, and finishing fourth in scoring as a sophomore.
Salkin, who was coached by Hall of Famer Willard Zweidinger, played alongside fellow inductees George Bizlewicz, Vincent Sarnowski and Abner Benisch during his time in the program.
A versatile athlete, Salkin also represented Newark State in open meets despite the fact that the school did not have a varsity track and field team at the time. He served on the College Athletic Committee in 1940-1941 and was a vigorous supporter of the McKenna Scholarship Award, named in honor of a young Newark State athlete from the class of 1940 who passed away just a year after his graduation.
Following college, Salkin continued his basketball career for various military and YMCA teams. He eventually became a world renowned paleontologist.
Salkin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial arts in 1941 and a Master of Science degree in science administration in 1953.
