Kean University

One of the more fluid scorers to wear the basketball uniform of Newark State Teachers College (now Kean University), Ernest Frino was a freshman sensation on a tough 1950-1951 squad, pouring in 295 points, a freshman record, for the 15-4 team.

The outbreak of the Korean War temporarily put Frino's basketball career on the shelf, but he returned for the 1953-1954 season, picking right up where he left off. He was third in scoring, with 207 points, for a Newark State club that went 14-4.

After a solid junior campaign, Frino's senior season saw him become just the second Newark State player to scale the 1,000-point plateau when he dumped in 21 versus the Aggies of the National Bible Institute on January 20, 1956. For the year, he netted 177 points.

Over his time at Newark State, Frino's teams compiled a 48-27 mark, among the best four-year records in school history. Frino also played baseball as a freshman, batting an impressive .333.

Frino earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education in 1956.
