The anchor of the Kean tennis team from 1976 through 1979, David Cheung lost just two matches in his last three years of singles competition on his way to garnering All-Conference honors all four years.
Cheung capped an illustrious career that saw him compile a 55-7 mark in singles matches by steaming to a perfect 19-0 record in his senior season. It was actually an improvement on his 18-1 junior campaign.
The 1978 and 1979 New Jersey State College Athletic Conference champion, Cheung also reached the NJSCAC finals in 1977. He competed in first singles as a freshman, junior and senior.
Cheung wasn't merely an outstanding singles player, competing at first doubles all four years as well, meriting All-Conference selections in 1978 and 1979. Captaining the 1979 team, Cheung was also an undefeated doubles player.
Cheung's excellence on the tennis court made him the recipient of the 1979 D'Angola Award, presented annually to Kean's outstanding male and female athlete.
Cheung earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in industrial education/construction in 1979.
