Hall of Fame
The fact that Sallie Maxwell played only two seasons for the Kean Cougars does not diminish the brilliant achievements of this sensational student-athlete. From 1982 through 1984, Maxwell strung together an impressive litany of accomplishments and accolades that includes being named the first Kodak All-American in school history (1983-1984), a second team All-American (1982-1983), Eastern College Athletic Conference Player of the Year (1983-1984) and New Jersey Basketball Writers Association Player of the Year (1983-1984). The 1983-1984 season also saw her become the Star-Ledger Player of the Year, and a first team All-State and All-New Jersey Athletic Conference selection.
Ranking second on Kean's all-time scoring charts, Maxwell poured in 1,510 points over the course of her career, leading her squads in scoring and rebounding both years and leading the Cougars to a 50-5 record, two NJAC championships, two NCAA Tournament berths and two Atlantic regional championships. In 1982-1983, Maxwell was tabbed as the Most Valuable Player in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament and named to the NCAA Atlantic Regional All-Tournament team.
Her tremendous level of achievement was recognized when she was presented with the 1984 D'Angola Award, presented annually to Kean's outstanding male and female student-athlete.
Maxwell earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Kean in 1984.
