Though he only played for two seasons on the Newark State College (now Kean University) football team, Jerome Dunn essentially put in four years' worth of service, starting on both the offensive and defensive lines in 1970 and 1971.
A charter member of the football program, Dunn's achievements are difficult to quantify, as the record keeping of the day allowed nothing statistically for linemen. As Newark State was also not part of the New Jersey Athletic Conference until 1972, Dunn also did not qualify for All-Conference status.
Nevertheless, Dunn is recognized as one of the early greats in the annals of Kean football. A tri-captain in 1971, he was the type of competitor who played hard and hurt, and knew how to extract maximum effort from his teammates.
Dunn also participated in one extremely successful year for the lacrosse squad in 1972. He received the Coaches Awards as the team's most valuable player that year, and was included in the 1971 and 1972 editions of Outstanding Athletes in America.
Following his playing days, Dunn served for two seasons as an assistant coach for the lacrosse team.
Dunn earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and teacher education in 1972.
