Kean University

Competing in basketball, tennis and gymnastics for Newark State Teachers College (now Kean University) from 1934 through 1938, Vincent F. Sarnowski was able to achieve a high level of athletic success, while having the honor of playing for two of the school's most legendary coaches, Joseph D'Angola and Willard Zweidinger.

Sarnowski, a four-year starter on the hardwood, captained the squad in his senior season. Highlights of his career include victories over powerful Montclair State Teachers College (now Montclair State University) in 1935-1936 and Trenton State Teachers College (now The College of New Jersey) in 1936-1937. Over the course of his four seasons, he counted fellow Hall of Famers Abner Benisch, George Bizlewicz, Robert Salkin, Arthur Wenzel and Charles Detgen among his teammates.

An outstanding tennis player as well, Sarnowski competed at first doubles in his junior and senior seasons and lettered in doubles as a sophomore. He established a program record by winning 10 doubles matches as a junior. Sarnowski also competed on the gymnastics team as a freshman.

Sarnowski earned a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial education in 1938.
