Hall of Fame
Francis Loughlin was the first great men's goalkeeper in a soccer program that has come to be known for its excellence in net. In 1971 and 1972, Loughlin led Newark State College (now Kean University) to a 17-11 record, notching back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since the program debuted in 1961. In fact, the team had enjoyed only one winning season prior to Loughlin's arrival.
The team's Most Valuable Player in both of his seasons, as well as an honorable mention All-New Jersey State College Athletic Conference selection in 1971, Loughlin set a host of school records, including most saves in a game (27), a season (121) and a career (216). He also established marks for goals per game average, season and career shutouts and fewest goals allowed in a season. In 1973, he was named to America's Outstanding College Athletes.
Loughlin earned a bachelor's degree from Kean in 1974.
