One of the more noteworthy players to wear a Kean baseball uniform, Michael Ferrara was also the program's first All-American. A star for the Squires (now Cougars) from 1976 through 1979, Ferrara enjoyed his finest season as a junior, batting .452 to garner third team All-American status in 1978, as well as first team All-Region and All-New Jersey State College Athletic Conference.

A key pitcher for the Squires as well, Ferrara earned New Jersey Baseball Writers' Association Pitcher of the Week honors for one stretch in 1978. He finished that season with a 3-4 mark, striking out 27 batters in 45 innings.

As a sophomore, Ferrara hit .317 and was 4-2 on the mound, notching 35 strikeouts in 46 innings.

A three-year starter and captain of the squad as a junior and senior, Ferrara received the Coaches Award as the team's most valuable player as a junior, when he was also invited to participate in the Division III North-South All-Star Game.

Ferrara earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education in 1979.
