George Bizlewicz arrived at Newark State Teachers College (now Kean) in 1935 with a reputation as an excellent football player. Unfortunately for Bizlewicz, and perhaps for Newark State, he was 35 years too early to compete in the sport at the school. Instead, he availed himself of the basketball and tennis teams and became a star in both.

A three-year varsity starter at point guard for the basketball squad, Bizlewicz became a star not for his scoring, but for his dazzling ball handling, playmaking and defense.

He also excelled for the tennis team during the 1938 and 1939 seasons.

Bizlewicz received a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial education in 1939.
