One of the rare players that makes an immediate impact on a college football team, James "Biff" Wilbur starred at linebacker for the Squires (now Cougars) from 1974 through 1977.

A starter and team leader from the moment he appeared on the Kean campus, the two-time captain was the team's second-leading tackler in 1974, 1975 and 1977 and led the squad in 1976.

A first time All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) and 1977 Coaches Award winner, Wilbur set a team record that season with 21 tackles against Montclair State College (now University). He was a second team All-NJAC pick in 1976, notching a team-high 122 stops.

A pivotal member of the 1974 team as a freshman, Wilbur had 73 tackles and a school-record six fumble recoveries in helping Kean to an 8-2 record. He was chosen to appear in the 1978 edition of Outstanding College Athletes of America during his career at Kean.

Wilbur earned a Bachelor of Arts in physical education from Kean in 1978.
