Hall of Fame
One of the earlier stars of the Kean basketball program, Arthur C. Wenzel was also one of its pioneers. Competing when Kean was still known as Newark State Teachers College and the game of basketball still featured a center jump after every basket, Wenzel developed a reputation as an explosive scorer, even with the constant interruptions in play.
Playing for Joseph D'Angola from 1933-1937, Wenzel led his squads in almost every offensive category during his career, including field goals, free throws, total points and shooting percentage. His dominance was due in large part to his outstanding leaping ability, consistently being able to control the center jump.
As a freshman, Wenzel helped lead the club to a 9-5 mark, its best ever at the time.
Wenzel also played for the golf team, capably filling the number one position in 1935 after competing in the number two hole the year prior. He averaged in the low 80s.
Wenzel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial education in 1937.
