Two-sport star Pete Kowalsky was a three-year starter for Head Coach Rich Bakker's Kean baseball teams. During his time in centerfield, Kean posted three winning seasons, compiling a 47-38 overall record during his four years, including a bid to the ECAC Playoffs after his senior campaign.

In football, Kowalsky was named to the All-New Jersey Athletic Conference and All-Eastern College Athletic Conference teams as a safety, after an outstanding senior season in which he paced the Squires in tackles and interceptions.

Kowalsky became the first sophomore ever to earn the D'Angola Award when he was named Kean's outstanding male athlete for 1976. When he claimed it again in 1979, he became just the second two-time winner of the prestigious honor.

Kowalsky earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in health and physical education from Kean in 1979. He also received a Master of Arts degree in administration and supervision from the College in 1985.
