An excellent basketball, softball and volleyball player in high school, Patrice DiFabio DeCastro chose another sport entirely in which to excel once she reached Kean - field hockey.
DeCastro played the game for only two years, but she made them count, scoring 22 goals during the 1973 season, a single-season school record. The 15 goals she netted the following year as the team captain gave her a career total of 37, making her the program's all-time leading scorer.
Led by DeCastro, the field hockey squad enjoyed two of its most successful campaigns, posting a 7-2-1 mark in 1973 and going 7-5-1 in 1974.
DeCastro resumed playing basketball during the 1973-1974 season, dumping in 104 points while starting at guard.
DeCastro earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in recreation administration from Kean in 1975.
