Hall of Fame
The most honored swimmer in the history of the Kean program, Barbara McGregor completed her career as the record holder in every event in which she competed.
McGregor graduated having set school marks in the 100-, 200-, 500- and 1,650-meter freestyle. She also broke the record in the 100-meter individual medley relay.
Posting a sterling 26-0 record in dual meets as a freshman, McGregor was named the team's Most Valuable Swimmer after leading the squad to a solid 9-4 mark. A member of the 200- and 400-meter relay teams, she helped Kean to a second-place finish in both events at the state meet. Those same relay teams became the first Kean swimmers to compete in the EAIAW Championships. McGregor was the highest-place individual swimmer in the state meet.
The following season, McGregor was the key reason the squad was able to duplicate the previous year's record. That season included the program's first win ever against Montclair State College (now University).
In McGregor's senior campaign, the swim team endured a disappointing regular season, but redeemed themselves with a third-place finish in the NJAIAW Swimming and Diving Championships, their highest finish ever. McGregor shone brightly, capturing two silvers, a bronze and two fourth-place finishes at the meet, qualifying for the Eastern Regionals in numerous events.
McGregor's athletic excellence was recognized with her reception of the 1981 D'Angola Award, presented annually to Kean's outstanding male and female student-athlete.
McGregor earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in fine arts from Kean in 1982.
